When I think back to my picture-taking experiences prior to this class, my only goal was to get the people in the frame and call it good. Only three months later, and my outlook on photography has dramatically improved! It was as if terms like aperture and shutter speed were a foreign language to me. Oh... and AV, TV, ISO, and manual mode settings... yep, I did not know a thing about those either! So, I totally disregarded any symbols like them and set my camera to auto everything. The first day I walked in to digital photography class and learned we were only going to be taking notes for a few weeks about camera basics, I was slightly disappointed. Despite my eagerness to take images, I sat back and let all the photography fundamentals sink in. Although it was boring at the time, little did I know that all of that information would make me a 100x better photographer! Below I have provided what I think my best and worst photos are. As for my worst photo, it was one of the very first images I took during this class. I did not know that the high ISO numbers made the photo lose quality, therefore, that photo was taken at an ISO of 6400! The image on the right was one of the last photos I took during this class. As you can see, the colors are much more vibrant, the focus is better, and composition rules were used, like the rule of thirds. Worst photo: Best photo: Below is another example of how I have improved throughout the course. One aspect of photography I have enhanced is how to use aperture. The left image was not taken with the correct aperture, creating a deep depth of field while it should have a short depth of field. The better image, on the right, features a shallow depth of field allowing the viewer really focus in on the purple flower. The intense contrast of colors on the better photo also contributes to its superiority. Lastly, the composition techniques used on the right photo also make the photo much more pleasant to look at. Overall, there are many techniques I have improved on over the class, but here is an example of one. Worse photo: Better photo: In addition to my improvement on photography skills, I have become a much better editor along the way. Prior to this class, I had never touched Photoshop before. The only editing experience I had was cropping images and maybe lighting them up a bit on my phone or in Adobe Lightroom. Throughout this course, I have learned an immense amount about photoshopping from layers and painting colors to how to make a shoe look like its dissolving in paint! Below I have featured some of my best photoshop projects. After all, I have definitely refined my photography skills throughout this spring taking Digital Photography 1. I have enjoyed learning all these techniques and look forward to using them in the future! Below are some of my best photos !
